This spring, Performing Arts Center of Tallahassee and Company Etudes Youth Ensemble Ballet invite you to escape from reality and experience “A Taste of Ballet,” featuring an evening of dinner and dance for one night only. This exciting event will take place on May 12, 2012 and is sure to be a night to remember.
Patrons will begin the evening with dinner at The McFarlin House featuring favorite seasonal spring cuisine. At the end of dinner, audiences will then treat themselves with a two-part ballet performance at The Leaf Theatre, also in historic Quincy, FL. The first portion of the show will highlight excerpts from David Lichine’s “Graduation Ball” set to the music of Johann Strauss, Jr., while the second-half of the show will feature original works by Artistic Director Amy S. Lowe and the faculty at Performing Arts Center of Tallahassee. The performance will showcase members of the Preparatory, Apprentice and Senior Company Etudes Youth Ensemble Ballet. With a running time of only approximately 90 minutes, the show is the perfect excuse to spend a family night out on the town.
“Graduation Ball” was originally choreographed by Lichine in the 1940s for the Original Ballet Russe. Through the years, it has become a ballet favorite for many audiences as it tells the charming and delightful story about a Viennese all-girls school and a neighboring boys military academy celebrating their annual graduation. Audiences will fall in love with the “Pigtail Girl,” chose sides with “The Rival Ballerinas” and laugh at the boisterous actions of the Headmistress and the General. “Graduation Ball” has been a part of the American Ballet Theatre’s repertoire for many years and Performing Arts Center of Tallahassee is proud to now include it in theirs. This comical ballet, followed by an all-original ballet concert will be an evening to remember and a new one-of-a-kind experience in North Florida for audiences of all ages.
Dinner will begin at 5pm, followed by the performance set to begin at 7pm. Patrons are encouraged to attend dinner, but there will be different ticket pricing options for those opting to attend the performance only. Ticket will go on sale in early Spring.
